Golf Club Apps – Creating a better experience

"Successful mobile applications build strong relationships with their customers" - IBM

I couldn't have said it any better. Apps are everywhere but yet, for the most of it, it hasn't filtered down to the golf clubs. And the few that have (with the exception) they have gone for the "at least we have a presence" option of a so-called “free” app.
Only to discover that downloads and usage is poor, it doesn’t work if the signal is poor and the “free app” isn’t actually free as the app suppliers want free rounds of golf for their own partners, cuts of your events revenue and to use your course as an advertising billboard for their own pockets, which would be so bad if the app made your club money too.

Making the right choice

When you think about it, there are many great business apps out there and we use them all the time. Golfers now have a whole host of different apps to choose from to improve their game but yet golf clubs themselves are not taking up this proven business tool (and no a "free" half baked app doesn't count) of a fully comprehensive native app which are designed as business tools.

CourseMate app - a different approach

Before anything was even outlined, the following questions needed to be comprehensively answered:
  • Why would a golfer download it?
  • How can the clubs make money from it?
  • What would make it really useful?
  • What are the best and worst features of apps already out there?
  • Costs and future proofing
After research, quizzing and answering of these questions we have come up with a great place to start. We then added in a lifelong design of making it modular (so it can be updated and new extensions added to the app at a later date) thus giving the CourseMate app future proofing for all clubs.
In a nutshell, our app is native – this means it works; everywhere on your course. You have the ability to market your events direct to users, you can promote your pro-shop and your food and beverage. It has live scoring built in which means that golfers can see how they and competing members are doing straight from your clubhouse plus you get to add visitor's email addresses to your marketing!
Golfers get GPS score guides, flyovers and pro-tips. They have their own scorecards (up to a four ball) for them to either track their own performance or to have a friendly competition amongst friends. They get tee booking and in app photography and social media uploads plus they are easily kept up to date with all the club events and promotional offerings.
Not one pop-up insight, not one unreadable webpage and no waiting for it to work!
See our promo video to see how it enhances your golfer's experience and how you, the club, can benefit from it great tool.
